Collect dietary needs using Shopify POS

If you're running a food or beverage company using Shopify POS, you likely have endless types of product variations and customer preferences to cater for.

Customer's also often expect to be able to purchase products instore, online or instore to take home.

In many cases, you might even often a combination of different products in some type of bundle, or sell tickets to particular dining events you are holding.

Any time you are working with food, it's likely that you are going to need to collect a customer's dietary preferences or restrictions.

Using the ShopFields app allows you to capture this information, and assign it to individual items in the cart, or to the order itself.

Some ways that you might use the ShopFields app in Shopify POS to collect dietary needs could be:

  • If selling a meal, just have one "meal" product in Shopify and create a list custom field that staff use to select the preferred meal
  • Creating a text or list field that allows staff to select a customer's dietary restriction
  • Creating an alert using a custom field and Shopify Flow that tags orders with particular meals to make them easier to report on
  • Collecting reasons for substitutions or changes to a meal
